Profile

Dr Tan Lay Ling is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with the Department of Psychological Medicine, Psychogeriatric Service, at Changi General Hospital (CGH). Her clinical interests include mental illnesses in the elderly with an interest in palliative care in people with dementia.

Dr Tan is also a Clinician Educator and Adjunct Assistant Professor with NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Associate Program Director with the National Psychiatry Residency Program and Associate Faculty with Singapore University of Social Sciences. Her research interests cover a spectrum of mental illnesses in the elderly including depression, suicide, grief & bereavement and decision making in people with dementia. Dr Tan also has an interest in medical education research in supervision and mentoring.

  • Jan 2018 - Dec 2020 Singapore Millennium Foundation “Panel study Investigating Status of Cognitively impaired Elderly in Singapore (PISCES)” My contribution is as a Co-Principal Investigator in this national study involving Dukes-NUS, Lien Foundation, St Lukes Hospital, SGH, TTSH, KTPGH, Tsao Foundation. 
  • May 2017 - May 2018 An action group research on adopting a palliative care approach to people with advanced dementia in CPGP Through participatory action research, there is facilitation of more effective interventions pertaining to palliative care of advanced dementia by the multidisciplinary team members of CPGP 
  • Sept 2017 - Sept 2018 The educational quality of the CME in the Department of Psychological Medicine To conduct a survey and focus group of how the multidisciplinary team members perceive the usefulnessness of the department's CME on their clinical practice 
  • May 2017 - May 2018 Teaching Case Formulation in the National Psychiatry Training Program Conducting a survey amongst residents and faculty regarding their perception of case formulation and to generate ideas of improving the teaching and learning of case formulation in psychiatry.
