Air enema reduction under fluoroscopy guidance is the method of choice in treating paediatric intussusception in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). An air enema reduction is considered successful if the intussusception mass resolves and air is seen refluxing into the small bowel loops.
The Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging (DDII) in KKH has been capturing success rates of fluoroscopy-guided air enema reduction of intussusception as a department Key Performance Indicator.
Success rates of air enema reduction under fluoroscopy guidance in KKH DDII are high when compared to internationally published success rates of 66% – 96%1-6.
